Tips for browsing the web in 2024
Recommended browser plugins
- use an ad blocker. any of them should do.
- use a third party password manager. I am happy with BitWarden
- bookmarks are underrated. I use Raindrop.io, which has an impressive list of features and supported platforms. It’s worth it for me.
- I can’t imagine living without RYS: Remove Youtube Suggestions these days. Apart from doing what its name says, the plugin has an extensive configuration, which includes the ability to remove Youtube Shorts from your feed (you’re welcome)
- have you had enough of cookie banners? You’re not the only one. Download I Still Don’t Care About Cookies right now!
Recommended browsers (I haven’t tested all of them!)
- Firefox Focus is a little gem, but no browsing history and no cookies, so too limited for me
- Firefox. It’s great
Recommended search engine
- duckduckgo, because I appreciate the commitment to privacy and the ergonomics (especially the !bangs and some other quality of life improvements. For example, searching for a hex number automatically brings up the conversion, which isn’t the case on Google as of this day)
- you simply have to appreciate the initiative at https://search.marginalia.nu/. It’s an indie take on the search engine, and I think it’s brilliant.
